With the 8th of January 2018 and the takeover of lock work in the Kiel Canal in Brunsbuettel, Hamburg Lines Men GmbH has become Germany's largest mooring business.
The Kiel Canal is the world's busiest artificial waterway for seagoing vessels. In 2017, more than 21,000 vessels over 125m in length used the lock chambers in Brunsbuettel, as well as nearly 8,000 smaller ships in the two small Brunsbuettel locks.
The bulk of the ship movements is attributable to the feeder traffic, which originates from the Baltic Sea area, the ports in the southern North Sea and Hamburg, where their cargoes to trans-ocean passages are put together.
